About Us
Cykel aim to promote cycling events in the community that are not usually covered by the clubs, other event promoters or governing bodies.
In 2011, Cykel launched the 2011 Ventou Victorian Corporate Criterium Series - A crit series aimed at getting corporate teams involved and participating in cycling races, not just mass participation events. The event was a great success resulting in half the field not currently belonging to a club, and many of those going on to become members and continuing to race at club level.
In 2011-12, Cykel launched the Women's Grand Prix. A series of criterium races for women only. Often, female particpants are confined to racing against their male counterparts, often receiving token prizemoney for their particpation, and sometimes not at all. The Women's Grand Prix aims to highlight to the community the strength of women's cycling, the growth in this demographic, and looks to encourage greater corporate support into this side of the sport.
Cykel have also teamed up with multiple world champion, Shane Kelly, OAM to head to the land of so much of Shane's cycling success - Japan, the home of the keirin.
Come with Shane on a journey through the Land of the Rising Sun to watch the keirin races, ride your bike around the velodromes at Shuzenji, the keirin school, and visit some of Japan's well reknown bicycle builders.
