Throughout the 2013 Red Star Coffee Women’s Grand Prix, it has been a great experience riding with the Liv/Giant Women’s Cycling Team.
Not just because we finished on top of the team leader board but because this series has helped create something very unique for women’s cycling in Melbourne.

The sun rises later, and sets earlier, signalling the end to the traditional summer criterium season in Melbourne. So too, this year's edition of the Red Star Coffee Women's Grand Prix had to come to a close, and the finale was nothing short of a 'cracker' of a day!
With Liv/giant holding a commanding lead in the teams classification, much of the focus remained on the minor classifications that still needed to be settled.

ONE OF THE MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE RED STAR COFFEE WOMEN'S GRAND PRIX IS TO HELP RIDERS LEARN THE FINER POINTS OF RACING, IN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT IS SUPPORTIVE FOR ALL RIDERS, FROM NOVICE ALL THE WAY TO ELITE.
The race panned out much like the others on the day - bunch together, sprint for points, break, chase, grupetto compacto, and ending in a bunch sprint. It made for an exciting day's racing. From the sidelines however, the finer points of Verita's race were broken down and analysed by Total Rush Hyster's Bridie O'Donnell.

I HAVE A CONFESSION TO MAKE.
IT HAS BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE I HAVE COMPETED, LET ALONE WON A RACE - ON THE ROAD OR ON THE TRACK. IN FACT THE LAST RACE I COMPETED IN WAS A HANDICAP AGAINST THE KIDS TO THE END OF THE STREET... I MADE SURE I WOULDN'T WIN THAT ONE!
I went along to Cycling Victori'a International Women's Day breakfast to support and acknowledge those who support the Red Star Coffee Women's Grand Prix, given there are so many deserving nominees within the cycling community.
To my surprise, I walked away a winner on Friday morning.

THE CONDITIONS THAT GREETED RIDERS IN ROUND 3 OF THE RED STAR COFFEE WOMEN'S GRAND PRIX WERE THE POLAR OPPOSITE TO THE LAST TIME THEY CAME TO THE COURSE IN ROUND 1.
With a blazing sun, a slight zephyr of a breeze blowing and the temperatures into the 30's, it was a great day for a bike ride in anyone's language... and the racing did not disappoint either.

THE RETURN TO CASEY FIELDS FOR ROUND 2 MAY INVOKE SOME FAMILIAR MEMORIES...BUT THIS TIME IT'S DIFFERENT.
Round 1 at Casey Fields saw more than 120 riders take to the circuit, all looking to claim an early lead in the race for the Red Star Coffee Women's Grand Prix. With two rounds out of the way, a familiar rivalry has been renewed. However the teams around them could pave a different path on this course less conducive to the two sprinters who lead the Cyclecover General Classification.

THREE BLISTERING ATTACKS IN THE THREE DIVISIONS OF THE RED STAR COFFEE WOMEN'S GRAND PRIX DETERMINED THE RESULTS ON THE FAST CIRCUIT AT MAYFAIR PARK IN BENDIGO
While it was drizzling in Melbourne, the sun came out in Bendigo on what turned out to be a spectacular day at Mayfair Park criterium circuit. With entries full for the day, it was left to the riders to show how strong they were in the heat that topped nearly 30 degrees.

THE RED STAR COFFEE WOMEN'S GRAND PRIX RETURNS TO THE HEADLINES THIS WEEKEND, WITH THE BENDIGO LEG OF THE SERIES TAKING THE STAGE AT MAYFAIR PARK ON SUNDAY FEBRARY 3RD.
The stage played host to Round 3 last year in challenging conditions. With the northerly wind that is customary for this time of the year, and a few locals of the marsupial variety looking on, Chloe Macintosh took the Division1 criterium.

FEMALE CYCLISTS FROM VICTORIA ARE VOTING WITH THEIR WHEELS, AND HAVE FORCED THE EARLY CLOSURE OF ENTRIES TO ROUND 2 OF THE RED STAR COFFEE WOMEN'S GRAND PRIX. LIMITED ENTRIES REMAIN OPEN FOR THE CONTOUR NOVICE CLASSIFICATION
With racing in rounds 2 and 4 to be conducted on the tighter Mayfair Park, Bendigo (round 2, Feb 3, 2013) and Yarra Blvd, Burnley (round 4, March 23, 2013) circuits, field restrictions have had to be placed on the number of entrants to the Red Star Coffee Women's Grand Prix. This unprecedented move by organisers coincides with the introduction of a third racing division, and a cap on the number of competitors in the Contour Novice Classification.

AN ENORMOUS FIELD OF 129 RIDERS ARRIVED AT CASEY FIELDS FOR ROUND 1 OF THE 2012-13 RED STAR COFFEE WOMEN'S GRAND PRIX, and for those looking on, reality hit - these riders are the driving force in the growth of women's cycling.
I don't think there could be a much better advertisement for the sport than what we saw on Sunday. The event had fast racing, difficult conditions, tight finishes, crashes and nerves. It also had dancing in the warm up areas, shenadigans in the team tents, and plenty of fun and frivolity!
